Life on Jeju

Jeju Island lies off the southern coast of South Korea. The largest island in Korea, it is blessed with a beautiful, natural environment and a unique island culture. Jeju has an outstanding coastline that harmonizes perfectly with the sea, cliffs, waterfalls and sandy beaches, all of which are dominated by Halla Mountain, a volcano (long extinct) rising 1950 meters.

The island's nature has been well preserved in its prehistoric state and with the fresh air, clean water and temperate climate, students of NLCS Jeju will find this island a peaceful yet exciting place to live. Jeju has a mild oceanic climate all year round and has the smallest annual temperature range in the country. During the hottest of summer months, the temperature averages no more than 34.7℃ and no less than -1.5℃ during winter.

NLCS Jeju will be located near Seogwipo, a city in the south-eastern part of the island. It is the first school to open within the ‘Global Education City': announced in 2006 as one of Jeju Development Center's planned developments on the island, offering Asian and international students a high quality English education.

Other developments on Jeju include a Science Park, Healthcare Town and a Tourism Port. The Jeju Development Center hopes to transform the island of Jeju into an international business, leisure, science and education hub.

On top of the campus' outstanding facilities, the island is home to a stimulating array of leisure activities. Horse-riding, golf, mountain climbing and water sports are all popular on the island and there are also many temples, traditional villages, gardens, markets, museums and beaches. NLCS Jeju intends to take advantage of its location in such a rich natural and cultural environment and students will be able to explore the fascinating island during school trips and activities.
