The Conservatoire offers an extensive programme of individual and tailored music lessons to all of our students. 25 peripatetic music teachers offer expert one-to-one tuition in a wide range of instruments. We currently offer: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Jazz Trumpet, Saxophone, Classical Voice, Pop Vocals, Piano, Pop Piano, Ukulele, Classical Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drum Kit, Orchestral Percussion, Music Theory, Jazz Studies and Music Technology.
Our instrumental teaching staff have a huge breadth of expertise and experience in their respective fields and provide excellent lessons to students throughout the Junior and Senior School. Most of our instrumental students are prepared by their teachers to take the ABRSM examinations twice a year. We are very proud of our excellent results. Examiners regularly comment on the high standard of musicianship on display. Several of our students have also been selected to perform in the ABRSM showcase in Seoul. We are extremely lucky to attract such high quality teachers many of whom are currently performing professionally all over the world.
Boeun Kim has worked as Lead Instrumental Music Teacher at NLCS Jeju since the school was founded. She has been a piano teacher, a piano accompanist and is a chief invigilator of ABRSM music theory exam and an interpreter of practical exam. She was also a literary critic and a musical director in Seoul before moving to Jeju. As well as specialising in piano, she also studied the music theory, composition and musical analysis during her art school years, undergraduate and postgraduate. She passed ABRSM piano and theory exams both in distinctions. She won many prizes and commendations in music competitions, and has appeared as a concert pianist with many orchestras and given a number of recitals. The span of her teaching experience is wide and varied for a number of years, from instrumental/theory teaching to ensemble coaching and orchestra conducting for young musicians. She enjoys working with students in NLCS Jeju and her students have made good achievement including distinctions in ABRSM exams.
Won many prizes in music competitions. Served as a concertmaster of the orchestra and a member of musical ensembles during her Art school years and at concerts. Invited to undertake the Master of Performance at the Royal College of Music by unanimous consent. Achieved ABRSM certificates: Performance Diploma and Grade 8 in Violin, Grade 7 in Piano, Grade 6 and Grade 5 with a full score in Music Theory. Received Full Academic Scholarships during her undergraduate years and graduated as dux of her year group. Awarded a full bursary through recognition as a student with excellence in academic performance for her postgraduate study. Through such experience, she has been supporting students in their preparations for College of Music, Music competitions, and the ABRSM Violin and Music Theory exams from Grade 1 to a Performance Diploma for many years and teaching the Violin, Senior String Orchestra, ABRSM Music Theory, and Aural training at NLCS Jeju since 2011. Also she has supported GCSE and IB Music students for their recordings of Solo and Ensemble Performances. She continually provides students with opportunities to perform as a soloist or in an ensemble and through this has helped students to become better performers, to develop their musical creativity, and to build confidence.
This is Sojung Lee. I have been teaching Cello at NLCS Jeju since year 2012. I have been educated High School ( Purcell School), BMus, PGDip( Royal Academy of Music) both in U.K. At the moment, I am performing at Korean Chamber Orchestra and teaching at the University. Through these experiences, it has been helpful to teach students for their needs and it gives me such a reward through their improvement. This year, one of my Y13 student is entering music(Cello) at Oxford University. This is one of great achievement at NLCS music department. My education aim for my student is to enjoy performing cello and easy to approach in any kind of music.
Guitar Instructor Jeong Eun-seon. I was taught by guitarist Mikio Watanabe, and I was invited to various concerts in Jeju and Tokyo and performed. I am currently teaching at NLCS-jeju, KIS-jeju, and Hamduk High School Music department. And I graduated from Jeju National University with a master's degree and is a contemporary music composer. My educational goal is to allow students to enjoy guitar without difficulty. The repertoire of guitar lessons will be tailored to the style of each student's favorite songs, and we strive to improve our skills by playing various songs.
Jazz Trumpeter, composer, producer, educator. Has went to Berklee College of music in Boston, USA and finished his master’s degree in Dongduk women’s university in Seoul, worked with Seo, Taiji, Lee, Moon-se, Tiger JK, etc, and performed in New York, Hong Kong, Japan, China International Jazz Festivals with different groups, and recorded many albums, and teaching Jazz harmony, ear training, ensemble, composition, MIDI programing, Jazz trumpet at colleges and applied music academy in Seoul. Brian Shin is teaching Jazz trumpet, Jazz Guitar, Jazz ensemble in NLCS. Good musicians need to be able to have fun with what they play. However, in order to have fun, everyone needs to learn its rules first. He wants his students to have fun with Jazz and become good musicians.
"Hello. I am Cho Yoo-Seob, who teaches acoustic and electric guitars at NLCS Jeju. I studied electric guitar(Bachelor) and music business(Master) at Dankook University. Currently I teach computer music, popular music history, harmony, electric guitar and ensemble in various schools such as Dankook University and Korea Broadcasting Arts Promotion Agency.
