Pat Galles joins NLCS this year as the Director of Sport and Physical Education after spending the past 9 years leading Busan Foreign School’s athletic and physical education programs. Prior to his journey to Busan, Pat led an international school's athletic program in Tokyo for 22 years.

Originally from Iowa in the U.S., Mr. Galles is a graduate of the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education, and he earned his Masters of Coaching and AthletIc Administration (MCAA) degree at Concordia University Irvine (CUI).

With a lifelong love of sports, nature, and teaching & coaching, Coach Galles brings a wealth of experience to the Orcas' program and he looks forward to teaming up with all partnering teachers in the NLCS sports and PE program in pursuit of excellence - on behalf of all NLCS students and the entire NLCS community as a whole.

Mr. Galles is joined at NLCS by his wife Maiko and daughters Sophie (Y12) and Olivia (Y8). The Galles family's eldest daughter Angie graduated in 2025 and will be attending university in the U.S., hoping to visit Jeju on her breaks.

Geoff Barham is a dedicated and experienced global educator with a passion for inspiring young learners. He earned his degree in Primary Education from the University of Wales, Swansea, and began his teaching career in the UK before expanding his horizons to international schools across South America, Europe, and the Middle East.

Geoff first taught in Korea a decade ago on Geoje Island and has been a fan of the country ever since. He believes that children thrive in a learning environment where they feel safe, happy, and supported—yet also challenged just enough to spark real growth and curiosity.

He has pursued postgraduate studies in International Education at the University of Bath, deepening his understanding of best practices in global teaching.

Outside the classroom, Geoff enjoys spending time in nature and is especially looking forward to exploring the Olle trails in Jeju. He joins NLCS with his wife and children, excited for the new adventures ahead.

Eleanor Marten holds a BA in Primary Education from St Mary’s University, London. She began her teaching career in London before moving to Seoul, and has gained experience across the EYFS, KS1 and KS2, teaching a range of year groups from Reception to Year 6.

Eleanor enjoys spending time in nature and is excited to explore the natural beauty and unique landscapes of Jeju. She also loves reading and learning about new things.

Eleanor is passionate about fostering engaging learning environments where pupils can develop confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. She is delighted to be joining NLCS and looks forward to contributing to the wider school community.

Sophie Ahn is a British-Korean educator who grew up in the UK, where she was educated and began her career. She holds a BSc in Biomedical Science from St George’s, University of London, a PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status from UCL Institute of Education, and an MSc in Applied Linguistics for Language Teaching from the University of Oxford. After several years in business, Sophie transitioned into teaching. She most recently taught Grades 3 and 5 at an international school in South Korea. As ASP Coordinator, Sophie led the development and delivery of the school’s after-school programme, working with pupils and families across the primary years and collaborating with colleagues across the wider school community. She has a particular interest in literacy development, pedagogy and how children learn, and believes that strong relationships and a genuine sense of belonging give children the confidence to be curious, think deeply, take intellectual risks and take increasing ownership of their learning. Sophie is delighted to be joining Year 3 at NLCS Jeju. Away from the classroom, she enjoys staying active and spending time with her family and their cat, Yeti, and looks forward to exploring Jeju’s nature, culture, food and cafés. Her twin daughters are also beginning their own school journey at NLCS Jeju.

Emma has a Master's in Education from the University of Glasgow, a PGCE from the University of Cape Town, and a Diploma in Play Therapy from PTI/PTUK. She has over ten years’ experience working in education in a variety of roles, including as a Reception Stage Teacher, Play Therapist and Curriculum Coordinator. Most recently, she worked in student wellbeing and boarding at Branksome Hall Asia, where she supported students’ social and emotional development and contributed to the development of pastoral and wellbeing programmes. She is looking forward to joining NLCS Jeju as an SEMH Specialist Teacher in the Junior School, bringing her passion for supporting children’s emotional wellbeing and helping them to develop the skills and confidence to thrive both academically and personally. She is also looking forward to becoming part of the wider NLCS Jeju community and enjoying life on the beautiful island of Jeju.

Richard is originally from Cornwall, England, and has lived and worked extensively in South Korea throughout his career. He graduated with a degree in Marine Geography from Cardiff University and completed his PGCE with the University of Buckingham.

He established and ran several independent English academies before becoming a Year 5 and 6 class teacher at Ulsan Hyundai International School.

Richard believes in creating an inclusive classroom where all students, regardless of their starting point, are able to access the curriculum and challenge themselves to achieve at their highest level.

Outside of school, Richard enjoys being active and has a love for the ocean and the outdoors. He particularly enjoys surfing, scuba diving and making the most of Jeju's natural beauty.

Ferdi Kaya is from Turkiye. He worked in Hong Kong, Türkiye, the UAE, Vietnam, Qatar, and Oman as a Physics (HL and SL), Math AA (HL and SL), IGCSE Physics, IMYC, A and AS level Physics teacher. He has been involved in the IB as a physics and math workshop leader, school team visit member, examiner (P2 and EE), and course outline reader since 2010.

He likes watching and playing football. He plays drums. He is married and has a son in Y8. One interesting fact about him is that he was a Salsa dancer.

Nishanthan holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, where his doctoral research involved designing and building laser gyroscopes. He has several years of experience teaching Physics, Science and Mathematics at secondary-school level, including departmental leadership experience. His scientific work has also taken him to some unusual places, including a physics laboratory inside a cave. Outside the classroom, he enjoys tropical fishkeeping, cycling and working on automotive projects, and has also flown aircraft solo.

Cameron holds a BA (Hons) in English from the University of Sussex, where he also completed his PGCE. He has experience in schools around the vibrant East Sussex area of the UK. Cameron is an avid proponent of DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) having led an anti-racism team at his previous workplace. He has experience liaising with foundations that promote equity within schools, ensuring that all students are given the correct instruments to be successful.

Cameron is a fervent reader, having a particular interest in the Fantasy genre and keeping a keen eye on the trends in YA (Young Adult) literature. He has a penchant for poetry, with Sylvia Plath being a cornerstone of his poetic knowledge. Cameron is joined at NLCS Jeju by his partner and two dogs. Cameron greatly looks forward to sharing his love of literature with the students, encouraging extra-curricular reading for pleasure and will always have book recommendations ready to go

Katherine is an experienced educator whose career has taken her from Ireland to Canada, China, and now to Jeju.

She holds a degree in Drama and Sociology from Trinity College Dublin, a Master’s in Women and Gender Studies from University College Cork, and a PGCE from the University of Sunderland.

Katherine has a wide range of teaching experience across Montessori, IB PYP, secondary, and university education, and has served as Head of Department in her previous school.

Passionate about wellbeing and diversity, equity, and inclusion, she is now settled in Jeju with her two dogs and looks forward to contributing her skills and experience to her new community.

Alisa is delighted to be assuming her role as Head of Senior Physical Education and brings immense enthusiasm alongside a passion for inspiring students through physical education.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Sport and Exercise Science and a Master of Teaching and Learning with Distinction, both from the University of Otago. Her strong academic background integrates Sport Science with Biology, allowing her to deliver comprehensive and engaging learning experiences.

Alisa fosters an environment that promotes curiosity, courage, and holistic development, both in the classroom and through practical outdoor and sports-based activities. With extensive international travel experience, she values the benefits of a global perspective in education and is committed to preparing students for success on any stage they choose to pursue.

Beyond the classroom, Alisa pursues an active lifestyle, combining running with her current sport of HYROX. She believes this balance is essential to nurturing wellbeing and models this commitment to health and fitness for her students.

Daniel Kopfli is a Year 3 teacher at North London Collegiate School, Jeju. After completing his degree in English Literature he began teaching in primary schools in Seoul, South Korea where he lived and worked for eight years.

After this he returned to the UK where he worked in an Ofsted rated Outstanding primary school on the South Coast of England for five years, the last two of which as Assistant Principal. During his time here he also completed an MA in Education through the University of Southampton with a focus on teaching English as an additional language.

Following his time back in the UK Mr.Kopfli moved to a leading international school in Shanghai, China. where he worked for 6 years, four of which as the Year 3 lead teacher and two as Year 6 lead teacher. While in China he completed his NPQSL through Best Practice Network.

Mr.Kopfli has worked extensively across both Key Stages and is passionate about ensuring all children are engaged in their learning, make excellent levels of progress and leave school prepared in the best way possible for their future lives as well as with plenty of fond memories of their school days.

Away from the classroom Mr.Kopfli is a keen sportsman and enjoys taking part in a range of sports particularly tennis, cycling and long-distance running.

Lou Whatling completed a HND in Popular Music at City College Manchester and BA (Hons) Music at Salford University.

She finished her PGCE at Edgehill before gaining her first teaching job as Primary Music teacher at a school in Ludlow, England.

In 2015, Lou left the UK and took a whole school Music post in Bangkok. Thailand. She has since taught whole school Music, from Reception to Year 11 in Italy (Padova) and Venezuela (Caracas). Lou completed her Masters in Education and Leadership, with distinction, in 2023.

Alhough her first instrument is classical guitar, her passion lies in songwriting.

She recorded her debut album in 2023, with the help of some very talented Latin American musicians, in Venezuela.

She is excited to come to Jeju Island and to both teach and learn from the students here.

Vanessa holds a First Class Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Buckinghamshire and a Merit in her PGCE from Leeds Trinity University. She has completed her Early Careers Mentorship, enabling her to mentor aspiring teachers, and holds multiple dance qualifications with the ISTD and Arts Award, alongside a certificate in teaching Arts Award qualifications.

With five years’ experience at her previous school, she has built the dance department from the ground up, becoming Head of Department at age 24—a position she has held for the past three years.

In this role, she has developed a comprehensive co-curricular performing arts programme, established three annual shows and three competitions/professional showcases, and organised regular events and trips to inspire and engage students in the performing arts.

Vanessa’s favourite dance style is Tap, which she performed at the Dance World Cup at the age of 18, and she also loves Jazz and Street.

She has trained in Contemporary, Ballet, and Political Arts—an area she finds particularly fascinating

David(Woochul) holds a Master of Education in Counseling Psychology from Jeju National University and is a licensed Clinical Psychologist.
After developing his career in Human Resources across various organizations, he transitioned into the field of counseling, where he is dedicated to supporting students’ emotional well-being and development.

Neil Tamlyn holds degree and postgraduate qualifications in Music and English Literature from Oxford Brookes University, Plymouth University, and Trinity College, London.

Prior to NLCS Jeju, his teaching experience spanned a number of outstanding schools across the UK.

Outside of the classroom, he pursues active interests such as cycling and racket sports.

Will holds a PGCE and MEd from the University of Cambridge and has several years' experience teaching history in the UK state sector.

He has been published in Teaching History, presented at the annual Historical Association Conference in the UK, and mentored trainee teachers.

His teaching is rooted in a student-centred philosophy: getting to know each learner as an individual, encouraging meaningful participation, and inspiring curiosity about the past, and the nature of the academic discipline of History.

He is interested in journalism, politics and philosophy, and is an avid rugby fan and player.

Originally from Bristol in the UK, home of Wallace and Gromit,  and a dedicated Bristol Bears fan, Will is excited to join NLCS Jeju to further develop his practice in a different educational context, and to immerse himself in a new culture and way of life.

Andrea Barron holds a PGCE International from the University of Nottingham and has been teaching in international schools in Jeju since 2018.

She has experience working with students from Nursery to Year 6 and has previously worked at NLCS Jeju.

Most recently, she taught Design and Technology at BHA, where she developed her creative approach to integrating technology in the classroom.

Andrea is delighted to return to NLCS Jeju and to work once again with its exceptional students, teachers, and parents. She is passionate about creating a warm and nurturing learning environment where children feel safe, confident, and inspired to be the best version of themselves.

Outside of school, she enjoys exploring Jeju and traveling with her husband.

Amy joins NLCS Jeju from the UK, bringing ten years of experience teaching Psychology. She holds a BSc in Psychology, a PGCE and a Postgraduate Diploma in Practitioner Enquiry from Newcastle University. Prior to joining NLCS Jeju, Amy was Team Leader of Social Studies at a large secondary school in England where she taught and led across a range of social science subjects.

A Psychology specialist, Amy has extensive experience teaching A Level Psychology and has also worked as an examiner for many years. She is particularly passionate about student wellbeing and positive psychology, and enjoys finding ways to help students develop and thrive academically and personally. At NLCS Jeju, she teaches Psychology, PSD and Critical Thinking

Jonny is an educator from New Zealand and a keen rugby player and fan who holds a Master's in Education from the University of the West of England, built upon a PGCE in Secondary Geography. With over 12 years of international and UK-based teaching experience spanning the UK, China, the Netherlands, and
Japan, he has taught IB DP Geography and Environmental Systems and Societies for multiple years, MYP humanities, IGCSE Geography, and various other subjects when asked upon.

Clair is excited to be joining the Drama Department at NLCS Jeju for her first teaching position in Asia. She began her career by training in Stage Management at Rose Bruford College Drama School near London, where she was awarded a BA (Hons), before working as a professional stage manager and company manager in major London theatres and with touring theatre companies across the UK. She then moved into education and became a Drama teacher, teaching at Priory School in Portsmouth, England, before joining the International School of Geneva, Switzerland, where she spent 18 years working as a Technical Theatre Manager, Drama teacher and LAMDA teacher. As a result of working in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, Clair is now fluent in French. She completed her Master’s in International Education with Durham University and has also worked internationally with ISTA (International Schools Theatre Association) as an Ensemble Leader. Clair is looking forward to becoming part of the NLCS Jeju community, sharing her passion for theatre with students and creating safe, joyful learning environments in which they can explore, create and grow. She is also excited to explore the beautiful island of Jeju with her family, learn some Korean and discover more about the rich theatre traditions of Asia.

Steven Walker joins NLCS Jeju as the Head of Junior School English, bringing over two decades of dedicated teaching and leadership experience. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Philosophy and Literature from the University of Warwick, followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from Homerton College, University of Cambridge. With 18 years of experience across Key Stages 1 and 2 in the UK and three years in international education at the British School of Brasilia, Brazil, he combines deep scholarly expertise with a profound passion for English Literature. He is committed to fostering academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and robust pastoral care to ensure every student thrives both academically and personally.

Sea Kwon holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Media from Technical University Dresden. Before joining NLCS Jeju, Sea Kwon worked for various companies, gaining experience in media, design and marketing. Having grown up in Germany and attended an international school, Sea Kwon understands the needs and perspectives of the students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Michelle Evans is an Art Teacher at NLCS Jeju. She has a BA (Hons) in Photography from Falmouth University and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Warwick. Michelle has experience teaching art across the Junior and Senior School and is passionate about developing students’ creativity, confidence and individual artistic voice. She enjoys exploring a wide range of artistic techniques and media and is particularly interested in developing students’ practical skills alongside their ability to think critically and creatively. Michelle has lived on Jeju since 2016 and thoroughly enjoys exploring the island’s natural beauty and culture with her husband and two children.

Mr Williamson is a Year 2 Class Teacher with a degree in Primary Education with QTS from the University of Brighton. He has six years of teaching experience in Korea and also taught in Thailand last year. Having taught across Lower Key Stage 2, Mr Williamson has been primarily based in Key Stage 1 over the past three years. He particularly enjoys outdoor and active learning, reading stories and creative activities, and values building strong, positive relationships with his pupils. Having entered teaching later in life and worked in a variety of roles outside education, he enjoys bringing real-world experiences and contexts into the classroom. Outside of school, Mr Williamson enjoys spending time in nature, playing golf and spending time with his wife, their two young children, and their dog and two cats.

Growing up in the international school circuit, John attended schools in both Egypt and Korea. Drawing on his international upbringing, John is excited to rejoin the community this time as an educator and is greatly looking forward to joining NLCS Jeju. During his free time, John enjoys exploring the outdoors and cooking.

Ian Stewart joins NLCS Jeju as Deputy Head of Junior School (Academic), bringing nearly two decades of experience across high-performing international schools in Malaysia, South Korea and Singapore. He holds a first-class BA in Primary Education from the University of Warwick and an MA in Education from the University of Bath, where he graduated with Distinction and won the Auswick Prize for best dissertation.

At heart a primary educator, Ian has taught across the full primary age range before growing into a senior leader with a particular passion for curriculum development and using technology to support outstanding teaching. He joins from Singapore, where he has served as Assistant Head of Junior School, and prior to that spent five years in Seoul, an experience that gave him a deep affection for Korea and its people.

Outside school, Ian is happiest outdoors. A keen hiker, runner and cyclist, he is drawn to Jeju's remarkable natural landscape and is looking forward to exploring the island with his partner, Toni, who also joins NLCS Jeju as a Science and TOK teacher.

Aaran Rajathevan holds a BSc in Mathematics from Cardiff University and completed his teacher training at the University of Oxford. Prior to joining NLCS Jeju, Aaran taught Mathematics at an international school in Laos, where he also served as Head of Years 8 and 9 and as Designated Safeguarding Lead, alongside supporting the school’s football programme. Outside the classroom, Aaran is always keen to take on new adventures and is looking forward to discovering Jeju with his family.

Seth O’Laughlin holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Education from the University of Southern Indiana and a Master of Education from Framingham State University. He has been living and teaching in Korea since 2018. He is passionate about sparking curiosity and promoting critical thought. Outside the classroom, he enjoys running, storytelling, language learning, and spending time with his wife and cat.

Toni holds a BSc in Chemistry (University of Bath) and an MA in International Education (University of Leicester). She began her career in the UK before moving to Hong Kong, then joined NLCS Jeju as Head of Chemistry (2016-2018), and subsequently Dulwich College (Singapore), where she has held a number of IB leadership roles, including CAS Coordinator, EE Coordinator and Assistant IBDP Coordinator.

Toni has a particular interest in supporting students beyond the classroom, including university preparation for Medicine and Oxbridge. She is also a keen endurance athlete and has been heavily involved in the running community in Singapore, serving as a Run Director at West Coast Park parkrun for seven years.

Toni is looking forward to returning to Jeju, reconnecting with the community and enjoying the beauty that Jeju offers.

Laura Adamson joins NLCS Jeju as Deputy Head of English, bringing ten years of experience teaching English in the UK and internationally. Before joining NLCS Jeju, she taught in Dubai, where she also served as Second in Department and Literacy Coordinator.

Laura is passionate about creating a classroom where students feel comfortable sharing ideas, asking questions and challenging different perspectives. She enjoys helping students grow in confidence and develop their own voice, while encouraging them to be curious, thoughtful and open-minded. She believes English is about much more than academic success, and wants students to enjoy the subject as well as feel challenged by it. Laura is also an experienced examiner for AQA, Eduqas and the International Baccalaureate.

Originally from the United States, Jason has over 15 years of international experience in education and leadership, having worked in China, the UAE and South Korea. He holds a Master’s in Teacher Leadership from the University of Colorado Boulder and a Bachelor of Science in History Education. Jason has taught History, Integrated Humanities and Theory of Knowledge, alongside leadership roles including IB Coordinator, Teaching and Learning Coordinator and Head of Humanities. He has also coached basketball, debate and World Scholar’s Cup teams, leading two schools to first-place finishes at Global Rounds and being recognised as World Scholar’s Cup Coach of the Decade. Jason is looking forward to moving to Jeju with his wife and son, and they are particularly excited to explore the island’s trails, coastline and natural landscape.

Simon joined NLCS Jeju in August 2026. With a career spanning nearly 30 years, he has extensive teaching and coaching experience across all levels of swimming. His career has taken him from swimming lesson academies and sports trusts to competitive swimming clubs, as well as state, private and international schools. He has worked with swimmers of all ages and abilities, from those taking their first steps in the water to athletes competing at the highest levels of international swimming.

Outside of the pool, Simon enjoys spending time with his family and supporting his children in their various activities and interests. He enjoys watching football, has a keen interest in aviation, and looks forward to exploring Jeju and the wider region.

Nadia is from Morocco. She is a software engineer with a Bachelor of Education in Computer Science and previously worked as a backend developer and database designer.

She was ranked first in the national teaching qualification exam. Nadia has taught IB and IGCSE Computer Science in Bahrain and Kyrgyzstan and has led students in coding and robotics competitions.

She is fluent in English, French, and Arabic. Nadia enjoys travelling solo around the world and caring for animals, and she is excited to join the NLCS Jeju community.

Yushi has a BA (Hons) Architecture degree from Oxford Brookes University and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from University of Warwick. Prior to joining NLCS Jeju, Yushi has worked as an Architect in Rivington Street Studio and a part-time Cinematographer for the University of Oxford.

Outside of lessons, Yushi thoroughly enjoys his additional role as the Badminton Coach, helping students to prepare for their KISAC and FOBISIA competitions, building resilience and confidence through challenges as well as achievements.

Having been raised in a mixed culture family and moved across different countries whilst growing up, Yushi empathizes with the students here and is actively seeking ways to support them with their journey of self-discovery, both academically and pastorally.

Hyun-Mi is an Australian-Korean who has been educated in Sydney since High School. She has a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Education from Macquarie University and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Management from the University of Sydney. Hyun-Mi has been teaching for 12 years in Sydney, the first 6 years at an all-girls private school where she later worked as a second in the Mathematics Department and the next 6 years at an all-boys private school where she worked later as an IBDP Mathematics coordinator. NLCS Jeju is her first international post and she is very excited to contribute and grow in the dedicated, caring and respectful community. Outside of teaching, Hyun-Mi enjoys watching football, musicals and movies and travelling to different countries.

Rebecca is a Teacher of English, having completed her studies at the University of Limerick receiving an honours BA in English and Linguistics with TESOL in 2024. She also obtained her Secondary English PGCEi through the University of Warwick. In her spare time, Rebecca enjoys hiking, reading, playing piano and has a keen interest in film.

Steve grew up in England and has been teaching for over 30 years. He was awarded a B.Sc. (Hons.) from the University of Leeds. After a few years working for the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, he returned to Leeds to train as a teacher. He remained in Leeds for ten years, teaching in state schools, before moving into international education in 2002. He has taught in England, Russia, Germany, Scotland and Kazakhstan. While in Russia, he worked as a Head of Department, Head of Key Stage 4 and Examinations Officer, but is now happy to focus his energy into delivering engaging Biology lessons. He has many years of experience, teaching both Cambridge and International Baccalaureate courses and has worked as an Assistant Examiner for the International Baccalaureate since 2006. He is very excited about joining NLCS Jeju and it’s “floors not ceilings” approach to education. He is very keen to explore the island of Jeju and experience Korean culture.

Vanya, with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Psychology and Counseling from the Philippines, has excelled as an IB educator for over a decade across esteemed international schools in the Philippines, China, and Singapore. Transitioning seamlessly between roles in academia, from university advising to academic and pastoral leadership, she has demonstrated remarkable versatility and leadership. Now, as a seasoned Psychology and Theory of Knowledge teacher, Vanya eagerly anticipates bringing her wealth of experience to NLCS Jeju, driven by her passion to enrich students' educational journeys and foster their holistic development. She is a firm believer in the transformative power of IB education and looks forward to inspiring students to develop critical thinking skills and overall well-being.

Steven graduated from Liverpool John Moores University in 2009 gaining a BSc in Physical Geography, and from Manchester Met Uni in 2010 attaining his PGCE. After a short stint working in Australia as a Graduate Geologist in 2012, his passion for travel and working abroad was ignited. He embarked upon teaching internationally, first in Izmir, Turkey followed by Trinidad in the Caribbean as well as spending some time in Seville, Spain and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. For the past two years he has been working across two campuses at a British School in Warsaw, Poland. He is looking forward to stepping up as head of the Geography department at NLCS Jeju and building fruitful relationships with new colleagues and students. In his spare time, Steve enjoys hiking and has recently completed a self planned 272 mile hike over 15 days raising money for the Ukraine Charity. He is looking forward to exploring the Olle Trails across Jeju’s amazingly diverse volcanic landscape.

Originally from Bristol, UK, Shilen recently earned a Certificate in Design Thinking and Innovation from Harvard Business School. He is a Fellow of both the Chartered College of Teaching (FCCT) and The Royal Society of Arts (FRSA). For over 12 years, Shilen has served as a senior leader in the UK and internationally, driving whole-school initiatives focused on evidence-informed Teaching and Learning as well as strategic future-proofing education.

As a Visual Arts & Technology specialist, Shilen is guided by the philosophy that "learning is a continual process." He aims to instil this mindset in the young people at NLCS Jeju while continuing to advocate for academic enrichment beyond the classroom. A former England international hockey player, Shilen has competed at the highest levels, earning multiple domestic and international honours. Dedicated to promoting a holistic life balance, he is keen to share his experiences and support all students in realising their aspirations.

Shilen lives in Jeju with his wife, who teaches in the First School, and their three children.

Nuryoldaş graduated from AIBU with a degree in Mathematics. She was the highest-ranking student in her department. She earned a Master's degree in Math Teacher Education from Bilkent University and participated in a teaching internship program at Iowa State University, USA. She has carried all her memories and experiences with her through her 18-year career teaching math to senior school students. Nuryoldaş wants to share and build on her extensive knowledge and experience internationally. She is confident that her abilities and passion will make her a positive and valuable addition to the NLCS, Jeju. Nuryoldaş lives in Jeju with her husband, İlhan, their two daughters, Irmak and Miray, and their dog, Miço. They are enthusiastic about embarking on new adventures and journeys. The opportunity to experience and immerse herself in a new culture, particularly Korean culture, excites her immensely. In her free time, she loves cooking and enjoys spending time with her family.

Marc has an MTESOL (Master of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), a BA (English) from The University of Canterbury and a GDipTchg (Primary) from Victoria University of Wellington. Prior to joining NLCS, Marc was an English language teacher at Hagley College in his hometown of Christchurch, New Zealand. He values the holistic nature of NLCS Jeju’s education and enjoys learning collaboratively with students to help them achieve their potential and foster a love for learning. Marc’s interests include rugby, cricket, music and trying new food. Marc lives in Jeju with his wife, young daughter and dog and enjoys exploring the island together.

Laura is a dedicated and experienced teacher from the UK. She has a BSc(hons) degree in Sport and Physical Education, along with a PGCE in Primary Education. Additionally, she is a qualified Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), further enhancing her expertise in inclusive education practices. Laura has a wealth of experience teaching students ranging from reception to year 6, and has taken on leadership roles in various subjects including maths, science, physical education, and SEN support, showcasing her well-rounded skill set. Recently, Laura made the exciting move to Jeju with her family, where she is eager to explore the outdoors and all that the vibrant community has to offer, Laura has a passion for sports and adventure, having played hockey at county and regional levels. She is also an avid runner, swimmer, and open water enthusiast, braving even the winter months for a swim. Laura has completed an impressive nine marathons and continues to challenge herself, with aspirations to reach double figures. In addition, she has ventured into triathlons in recent years and looks forward to participating in more events. With her strong educational background, diverse teaching experience, and active lifestyle, Laura Tanna brings a dynamic and passionate approach to both the classroom and her personal pursuits. Her enthusiasm for learning, coupled with her adventurous spirit, make her a valuable asset to NLCS Jeju.

Kerrie is from the UK and has a BA (joint honors) in French and History. After completing a PGCE in primary education, she taught in the UK for ten years before moving to Jeju in 2011 as a junior school teacher and a house mistress. She recently took a sabbatical year in the UK with her two sons and returns to NLCS Jeju as a junior school music teacher and assistant house mistress. In her free time she loves spending time outdoors.

Katie joins NLCS Jeju as the head of Inclusion and Wellbeing after 8 years as a SENDCo at a secondary school in the North West of England. Katie’s foundations in education are as an English teacher; she has a BA in English Literature from York St. John University and her PGCE is in English and Drama from Edge Hill University. Having spent her early career as an English teacher, it was clear that her passion was in supporting students with additional needs and she studied for her Level 7 qualification in Access Arrangements, closely followed by her NASENCo qualification awarded by the University of Kent. Katie has dedicated the majority of her career to supporting students no matter their barriers or backgrounds to thrive in education, and she is excited to be joining an incredible inclusion team at NLCS Jeju. Katie will be moving to the island with her husband, daughter and son, all of whom are looking forward to immersing themselves in Korean culture and exploring this beautiful island.

Jiyoung is a British-Korean who has been educated in the UK since primary school. She attended The Purcell School, a world-renowned music specialist school, and later earned her BMus (Hons) at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, studying harp, where she received a full scholarship throughout her education. Jiyoung has won numerous international competitions and has performed for Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace. She was also invited to perform to celebrate King Charles's 60th birthday. She began her teaching career as a music teacher at a secondary school in London, where the music department received an award from the local council for being the best in the borough. After having her two children, Jiyoung became intrigued by how young children learn, which led her to start teaching music to primary school children. She enjoyed teaching young children so much that she decided to further her career by becoming a class teacher. She completed her PGCE in Primary Education at St Mary's University in London. Before coming to NLCS Jeju, Jiyoung gained experience teaching both Key Stage 1 and 2. She also served as a phonics champion and Head of House at her previous school, which was rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted. Jiyoung is passionate about how children learn and is dedicated to ensuring all children succeed in every aspect of their lives. When not teaching, Jiyoung enjoys spending time with her family travelling and continues to enjoy performing the harp. She also sings in a choir and plays the piano.

James is from South London, where he spent most of his childhood playing and watching football. After graduating in French Studies from Nottingham University, he became an English Teacher in order to be able to travel the world. Since then he has worked in Slovakia, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mexico, Mainland China and Uzbekistan, and he and his family are very excited to come to Jeju and experience its beautiful nature.

Hwayoung is a Korean Language and Literature teacher with a degree from Korea University and is currently pursuing a PhD in Education. She has over 15 years of teaching experience in international schools both in Korea and the UK. She brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her new role. In addition to her extensive teaching experience, she is an IB Examiner and Assessment Content Developer and has proactively shared her IB expertise as an adjunct professor for the International Baccalaureate Educator Certificate (IBEC) programme. Hwayoung is very excited to be embarking on her new journey at NLCS Jeju, where she is looking forward to making positive contributions to the academic growth and development of her students.

Gülçin is from Turkey. She completed her BSc (Hons) degree in Chemistry Education at Middle East Technical University (METU) in Turkey and ranked first in the department. She has been teaching Chemistry for eight years and has taught IBDP and AP (Advanced Placement) Chemistry courses at American Collegiate Institute and Robert College in Turkey. She is passionate about nurturing students’ minds to grasp the connection between science and their daily lives. She enjoys reading books and science magazines and sharing interesting scientific facts with those around her. She will be living in Jeju with her husband, Utku and they have a Golden Retriever dog, Kaju."

Gaspar has a BSc and MSc in Sports and Physical Education from Madrid Technical University. He is returning to Jeju to teach Academic PE after working in Japan for two years as Data Manager. Gaspar enjoys nature and physical activities. He looks forward to cycling and walking his dogs on Jeju Island once again. He loves sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for Sports to help pupils develop their own talent and understanding on the subject from a scientific point of view.

Mr. Incirli teaches History and Theory of Knowledge. He holds a BA in Politics and International Relations from the University of Kent, a Master’s with Distinction in International Relations, and a PGCEi with Distinction from the University of Warwick. His academic interests centre on history, conflict studies, politics, international affairs, and the ways in which ideas shape our understanding of the world. Outside the classroom, he enjoys reading works on strategy and classic literature, playing and watching basketball, artistic ventures, and travelling and exploring new cities and cultures.

Devin Watkins graduated from York University in Toronto, Canada with a BA (Hons) in English and Creative Writing. He then went on to teach English at primary and middle schools in both Japan and Korea. He also taught English literature at secondary schools in the UK after acquiring his teaching certification from the University of Brighton. Devin loves teaching and his enthusiasm shines through in his lessons and in his strong, positive relationships with his students. He came to Jeju with his Korean wife and his son who also attends the Junior School in addition to his successful career as a fashion model. Devin enjoys DJing electronic music, running tabletop roleplaying games, hiking in beautiful nature, reading good books, discussing poetry and learning martial arts.

Dasol graduated from Jeju National University with a degree in Korean Language Education. Currently, Dasol is pursuing a Master's degree in Global Education at the Graduate School of Jeju National University. Additionally, Dasol holds both MYP and DP IB Educator Certificates, certified by the International Baccalaureate organization. Dasol has three years of experience working as a Korean language teacher in an international school in Korea.

Christopher was born and raised in Southern California in the United States. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Irvine and eventually went on to complete an MBA from California State University, Long Beach. He has over 7 years of university admissions counseling and advising experience through his time as an Undergraduate Admissions Evaluator at the University of California, Irvine and an Admissions Representative at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He takes pride in seeing the students he’s worked with matriculate into university and he hopes to use his expertise to continue helping students achieve their educational goals.

Catherine did her BSc (Hons) at the University of Kent in Cellular and Molecular Biology, started her teaching career at Sheffield Hallam University, where she was awarded a PGCE with QTS in secondary science and completed her MSc at the Univerity of Bristol in the Psychology of Education. She taught in a variety of different schools in the UK, including selective and single-sex settings, for 8 years before moving to Indonesia, where she taught in 2 different international schools. She is accompanied to Jeju by her husband and 2 children. In her spare time she enjoys travel, trying different foods and BTS! She believes education is more than academic qualifications and is looking forward to getting to know students outside of the classroom.

Benjamin recently completed an honours degree in fine art from Arts University Bournemouth and an overseas programme studying oriental painting and Korean art history at Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea. Ben loves crocheting and travelling with friends, he is excited to return to the island and experience NLCS Jeju.

After graduating in French Literature and then in English Literature and Civilisation, François completed a Master’s in Education and a PGCE in French. He worked as a French and Spanish teacher for four years in Twickenham in the UK and he then embarked on an international career that took him to Mexico, Uzbekistan and Turkey. Passionate about education, he had the opportunity to occupy various positions related to curriculum and pastoral development in his previous schools and he always strives to find better ways to make his students happy and successful learners. In his free time he likes to explore and play outside, and if he is not at home reading a book with his cats, he is most likely running, cycling or climbing somewhere around the island.

Adam is originally from the town of Goderich, Ontario in Canada. He has an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University, and a Masters of Education from the University of Western Ontario. Adam has taught science in Canadian, American, and British schools in Korea, Malaysia, and China. He is very excited to join NLCS Jeju on the beautiful island of Jeju. He believes in the power of questions that provide his students with the skills to develop their own scientific questions and investigate them. He hopes to use the beautiful ecology and landscapes of Jeju to foster a deep and inquisitive love of science in his students.

With a Bachelor's degree in Education and a Master's in International Chinese Education from HKU, Qingyang brings a wealth of expertise and a global perspective to her role. Qingyang has taught IBDP BHL, BSL, IGCSE first and second language courses. She has also developed the school curriculum for MYP Language & Literature. For the past 5 years, she has captivated students aged 7-13 through her engaging Chinese lessons at Sha Tin College. However, Qingyang's passions extend far beyond the classroom - she is an avid explorer of the great outdoors, with a particular fondness for conquering the slopes on her skis (albeit with somewhat questionable technique), traversing scenic hiking trails, and immersing herself in the underwater world through scuba diving (though she admits it's been a while since her last dive). Qingyang is thrilled to embark on a new journey at NLCS Jeju. With her infectious energy and passion for adventure, she is poised to inspire a new generation of students to embrace the wonder and excitement of the Chinese language.

Merve is originally from Izmir, Turkey. She is a graduate of Integrated BS and MS Program in Teaching Mathematics from Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey. Before completing her masters, she attended Fontys University of Applied Sciences for a fall term (via Erasmus program) at 2010. She had one of her internships in Breda, Netherlands. Currently, she is doing her masters in Statistics at Ege University, Izmir, Turkey. Merve has been teaching mathematics for the last 10 years. Her favorite topics are Statistics and Probability. After attending a CAT2 training program in Berlin, 2018 and getting an IB certificate, she has also become an IB examiner. Working with people from different cultures and a variety of countries always makes Merve feel good because she thinks that mathematics is also a language to communicate with people. Merve is looking forward to joining NLCS because she likes working with competitive groups and having students with high academic expectations.

Rumer began her teaching career as a learning assistant at a primary school in London, England. She went on to complete teacher training and was awarded her QTS by UCL. Rumer has been teaching in Korea, first in Jecheon and most recently in Seoul, since 2020. She is greatly excited to inspire, motivate and support students at NLCS Jeju. Outside of the classroom, Rumer enjoys photography, reading and cooking, and she is looking forward to learning more about the unique cultural aspects of Jeju.

Melody is an NLCS Jeju alumnus with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering from The University of Hong Kong. Melody has over 4 years of experience in teaching and tutoring, and she has given a summer lecture in Jeju University. As a returning alumnus, who has already spent a year as a Gap Assistant, Melody is a experienced Graduate Assistant full of love for NLCS Jeju. She enjoys garment making, going for a drive and spending time with her family. Melody’s favourite quote is “Harness energy, block bad".

Sunghyun is from mainland Korea. After earning a BEd in history education from Seoul National University, he worked in Korean local high schools as a history teacher and was a 12th grade tutor for 10 years. He joined NLCS Jeju in 2011 as a Korean history teacher and he now works as university guidance counselor, specialising in supporting applications to Korean Universities.

Mrs Baird has a MA (Oxon) in Classics (Literae Humaniores) from St. Anne’s College, Oxford University. She represented the university in rowing whilst there. Her teaching qualification (PGCE) is from King’s College, London University. She has been teaching since 1989 mainly in the UK and last taught abroad from 1992 to 1994 in Kenya. She enjoys travelling and is excited about exploring a part of the world that she has not yet experienced. Her last teaching position was as Head of Classics at Malvern St James School. She enjoys walking in the Malvern Hills and in Jeju too. She also likes going to the theatre and art galleries and practices Tai Chi. She has three grown up children.

Amanda has an MA in Literature and Culture, 1700-1900 from the University of Sussex and BA (Hons) English Literature from Queen Mary, University of London. She completed her teacher training in the UK, and worked in comprehensive schools in Greater Manchester for 5 years. Prior to joining NLCS Jeju, she taught at a British international school in Portugal. Amanda has a passion for nineteenth-century literature, learning new languages and K-pop - she enjoys exploring Jeju and the rest of South Korea! She believes that high academic and extra-curricular standards lead to a developed, well-rounded individual.

Vivienne is from the UK where she qualified as a teacher with a BSc in Mathematics from the University College of St. Martin, Lancaster (now University of Cumbria). After ten years teaching in the UK state system, and a year in Colorado, Vivienne moved to North Carolina for four years to work in a county school that focused on an internationally-minded curriculum. During this time, she earnt a Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University. Vivienne moved to Jeju in 2014 as a member of the Junior School team and is currently a mathematics specialist teacher with a reputation for attending Star Trek conventions and enjoying the Eurovision Song Contest!

Jay has an MSc Library Science from City, University of London. Prior to joining joining the School Jay was the Librarian at a preparatory school in the UK. Jay has a longstanding interest in film and writing, which they hope to be able to share with others and is excited to be working in a school that values scholarship and places the library at the heart of the school, and to experience a new culture and explore the island.

Monica (Yuanyuan) Cai initially graduated from Capital Normal University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese Teaching, after which she gained her Master’s Degree in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from Beijing Language and Culture University. She first started teaching at an elementary school in U.S., when she was still a graduate student in BLCU. Upon graduation, she continued her career as a Senior School Mandarin teacher in Dulwich College Beijing, where she gained further experience both in her subject domain and, in the pastoral area as a form tutor. Her most recent positions were Senior School Mandarin Teacher and Day House tutor in Marlborough College Malaysia, where she taught IGCSE and the IB, as well as fully committing to the boarding school system. In her spare time, Monica has a strong interest in fashion. Monica has two lovely cats.

Thom joined NLCS Jeju in 2014. He is from the UK and is here with his wife who is from the US. Previously, he worked in the U.K. state sector for six years teaching Philosophy, Religious Studies, PSHE, and Critical Thinking. He completed his PGCE in Religious Studies at the University of Bristol after being inspired by volunteer teaching placements in India. He studied for a BA in Philosophy at the University of Southampton and completed a further Masters in Philosophy of Mind, also at the University of Southampton.

Minsoo has spent a significant part of her life living and studying in Australia and New Zealand. In the 14 years that she was there, she obtained a degree in Operations Research and Statistics from the University of Auckland, and a Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Queensland. As a certified teacher from Brisbane, Australia, Minsoo taught Mathematics and Computer Science in Brisbane for 4 years before returning to Korea to teach at NLCS Jeju in 2014. Minsoo is an experienced IB and IGCSE Mathematics teacher who has completed Master of Educational Studies through University of Queensland in 2022. Minsoo is passionate about supporting students with mathematics competitions; and she is South Korea’s official representative of the International Mathematics Modeling Challenge. Outside of the classroom, Minsoo enjoys travelling and spending time with family.

Eunsil holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a focus on Korean Language Education. After graduation, she began her teaching career at Younghoon Elementary School in Seoul before joining NLCS. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Digital Education at the University of Edinburgh, where she is exploring the intersection of education and AI.

Victor is from the United States. He has worked in university guidance counselling for 11 years. Victor graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in Communications (Journalism). He is married and has a son in the Junior School, and a baby boy.

Laetitia is from France. As a young child she has lived Belgium, Holland, Korea and then moved to France where she completed her studies and obtained a BA degree in English studies. After working as a language assistant near Plymouth, she enrolled into a Postgraduate Certificate in Education course in French and German. Laetitia worked in a Catholic school in Cambridgeshire before deciding to move abroad. Since 2013, she has worked at NLCS Jeju. As a life-long learner, she has continued to take on different academic challenges, including widening her specialism in the IB Diploma by gaining knowledge and experience of the programme. True to her belief in holistic education, she has always contributed to a wide range of extracurricular activities that include sporting activities and competitions.

Yong-Jun Chun has a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from LeTourneau University, TX and a Masters in Mathematics for Teachers from the University of Waterloo in Canada. He is a Clear Credentialed teacher in the state of California. Before training to be a mathematics teacher, he previously worked in the biomedical industry as a sales engineer. His last post was at Gyeonggi Suwon International School where he was a maths teacher and also the Head of Mathematics. Having grown up in Korea, Nigeria, the UK and the US, Yong-Jun was a third-culture child and has a love for international travel and experiencing new cultures. In his free time, he enjoys being a nerd, watching martial arts and spending time with his family.

Sebastien is French by nationality but lived in the UK for several years. He graduated from Greenwich University with a B.Ed and completed his IPGCE from Buckingham University. He taught for several years in different inner London schools and for 7 years in Cyprus before moving to NLCS Jeju with his family in 2014. He has been a Head of Year, Head of House and Head of Department in his previous schools. At NLCS Jeju, Sebastien is the House Master for Jeoji house, a PE teacher and is the head coach for the Middle School Rugby team with whom he has won the National Championship. Sebastien has played competitive table tennis and rugby in France, England and Turkey.

Andrew has a BA (Hons) in Business Studies and completed his PGCE in Physical Education with Nottingham University. He has lived in South Korea, with his Korean wife and daughter, for 11 years, primarily as Coaching Director of an international football academy and holds coaching licenses through the FA and FFA. He enjoys playing sports and is the Head coach for Middle and High school Football teams.

Maggie has a Bachelor’s degree Major in Education from Northeast Normal University. She also received the Certificate of teaching Proficiency of TCSOL from Beijing Language and Culture University. She holds teaching qualifications for both Kindergarten and Junior School. She has more than 15 years of experience teaching in an international setting. Her last post was Head of Primary Mandarin in an outstanding international school in Shanghai. She has a passion for working with children, and loves Chinese traditional culture which she enjoys sharing with her students.Maggie has particular interests in cooking, traveling, music, sports and charity work. She believes in the power of education and often volunteers to conduct teacher training workshops in remote areas during school holiday.

Tobias is from New Zealand. He completed his Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Chemistry at the University of Canterbury. He holds a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (NZGSE), Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) and a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies (GDBS). He is passionate about teaching IB Chemistry and has worked as an assistant examiner for several years. He is married and has one son.

Megan Dyer-Jones has a joint MA (Hons) in Anthropology and Geography from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. After graduating Megan chose to combine her love of teaching with her second love of travelling and completed her CELTA travelling to teach in both China and Spain for three years before returning to the UK to complete her PGCE at the Institute of Education, UCL. For the past four years Megan has worked at an all-through comprehensive school in South East London as both a Geography teacher and 2iC of Humanities. Megan likes adventure and learning more about Korean culture and language while inspiring her pupils to achieve their greatest goals.

Daniel completed his Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) at Otago University. He has since taught in the United Kingdom and New Zealand, most recently leading the Senior Syndicate at Wellesley College. Daniel is passionate about mathematics and literacy, but has also led school bands and coached rugby. Outside of the classroom, he is a keen runner, a musician and rugby fan.

Peter Evans has been teaching in the Junior School at NLCS Jeju since 2016. He has a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Brighton and a BA (Hons) in Media and Popular Culture from Leeds Metropolitan University. Peter has experience teaching children across Pre-School, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. He is the Reading Leader for the First School and manages the school’s phonics programme. He is also a trained Forest School (outdoor learning) practitioner and runs the NLCS Forest School Bryant programme. Peter is passionate about nature and enjoys a wide range of outdoor activities. He thoroughly enjoys living on Jeju with his wife and two children and exploring the many attractions that the island has to offer.

Martyn has a BA (Hons) in English and History from York University and an MA in Modern and Contemporary Literature from Sheffield University. His teaching qualification is from Liverpool Hope University. Whilst studying at York University, he was fortunate enough to have his poems published in local anthologies. Martyn has taught overseas since August 2000 and has taught in Taiwan, China and Singapore. His last post was as the IGCSE Coordinator and English teacher at the Australian International School in Singapore. Martyn is a lover of the great outdoors and has travelled extensively across Europe, North America and Asia.

George has an MA Applied Linguistics from the University College London, a BA Popular Music Performance (Hons) from the University of West London and a PGCE Early Years and Primary Education from London Metropolitan University. Prior to joining the School he was Vice Principal at an international school in South Korea. George is an avid reader who also enjoys playing the guitar, as well as hiking and cycling. He lives on Jeju with his wife and two children. He looks forward to inspiring his pupils with a lifelong love of learning.

Akinyi has a Bachelor of Education (Arts) from Kenyatta University Akinyi enjoys music, fitness and the outdoors. She loves living in Jeju because of its beauty and quiet island life. Recently, she has rekindled her love for learning new languages by trying her hand at Korean language. She lives on Jeju with her husband and daughter. "Floors not ceilings" resonates with my personal experience of how a great education opens doors to limitless opportunities.

Lauren has a BSc Geography from the University of Plymouth and a Masters degree in TESOL from Swansea University. After realising her passion for teaching, she obtained a QTS as a Primary Education and ESL teacher. Lauren has taught primary school children in Korea since 2017, most recently teaching Year 1 and Year 3 at a private school in Seoul. She enjoys encouraging and supporting children to become creative, curious, and confident young people. Lauren lives in Jeju with her family and is excited to get outdoors and experience all Jeju has to offer. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, baking and drawing, and spending time with her family.

Having lived in four countries, Susan has cultivated a deep understanding of international education, enabling her to connect with diverse communities and navigate various cultural and academic contexts with ease. She holds a Master of Applied Linguistics and a Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Linguistics from Monash University, Australia, both awarded with Distinction. Additionally, she earned a Bachelor of Applied Science and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Queensland, Australia. As a certified teacher with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT), Susan also possesses supplementary qualifications in business and language acquisition.

With over 20 years of academic experience, including roles at three international schools, Susan brings extensive expertise across a range of curricula, spanning junior to higher education. Her teaching repertoire includes language acquisition, business management, and sciences. She has also served on several corporate boards in Australia. At her previous international school, she held leadership positions as Head of English, English as an Additional Language, and Library.  Susan is dedicated to furthering her leadership and academic expertise to promote inclusive teaching practices, cultivate collaborative learning environments, and achieve meaningful educational outcomes.

Laura has a BEd in Primary Education from the University of Gloucestershire. She is from the Isle of Wight, UK, which is where she started her teaching career, teaching Year 5 for three years before moving to South Korea in 2019. Prior to joining NLCS Jeju, she worked in Busan as an English teacher for three years. She is passionate about creating a warm and welcoming learning environment where every child can succeed. Outside of the classroom, Laura enjoys exploring the nature and beauty of Jeju. She also loves journaling, reading, travelling and spending time with her family.

Evangeline Grant has a BA in English Language from the University of Manchester. She completed the Teach First Leadership Development programme and obtained her PGCE in Secondary English. She has taught in the U.K., Hong Kong and Kenya. Evangeline is excited to join NLCS and share her passion for her subject. She is also looking forward to exploring the island of Jeju and learning more about Korean culture.

Koray has a BSc (Hons) Chemistry from the University of Kent and has recently completed an MSc Chemistry. Koray enjoys being active, taking part in sporting events, and exploring the Far-East. He has a keen interest in organic synthetic Chemistry as his research masters specialised in making sustainable batteries via vitamin sources, and he hopes to transfer these interests to the Senior School students and make Chemistry even more exciting for them.

Born in Northampton, England, Chris has an iPGCE from the University of Sunderland and a Masters in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the University of Birmingham. He has been teaching in Korea for over 12 years; and has worked as a teacher trainer to Korean public-school teachers. He leads a student-centered classroom and is passionate about developing both himself and his students. When not in the classroom, Chris can be found out on his bike getting lost in the Korean countryside.

Fabián Herrera is originally from Chile, where he obtained a BA in Social Communication and Journalism from Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción. He later pursued a language teacher training course in English and German before moving to the UK to complete his teacher training at the National Centre for Languages (CILT).

He taught Spanish at all levels in a grammar school in Kent, England, where he also held leadership positions including Head of Year, Head of Spanish, and Head of Modern Languages. Alongside his teaching, he has mentored trainee teachers and contributed to national professional development as a Teacher Leader for the Prince’s Teaching Institute, delivering workshops for language teachers across the UK.

Fabián joined NLCS Jeju in 2021 and, after four years at the school teaching Spanish and French, is now Head of European Languages and KSL. In this role, he is dedicated to fostering excellence in language learning, encouraging intercultural understanding, and developing students’ appreciation of the role of languages in today’s global society.

Chris has over 30 years of teaching experience across a variety of secondary school settings in different parts of the world. Chris has an MA Educational Leadership and Management from The Open University, as well as a BSc in Sport Science and a BA in European Humanities. Chris has lived on Jeju for five years and two of his children have attended NLCS Jeju. He loves physical activity and the outdoors, and Jeju is the perfect place for him to indulge in his main passion of cycling. Chris is a regular at many of the local coffee shops and enjoys travelling extensively to explore and enjoy new cycling destinations.

Sarah-Joan Randerson has been working in education for over three decades. She trained at a teacher training institute in Cheltenham, UK, which later became known as the University of Gloucestershire, where she gained a B.Ed. with honours. Sarah has primarily taught mathematics in the UK, New Zealand, and Jeju, but has always held student support roles, ranging from Head of Year for over 300 students to a volunteer counsellor at Centre 33 (Cambridge, UK) and Youthline (Auckland, NZ). She has also volunteered for the Samaritans' crisis phone service in the UK.

She is delighted to be using her Advanced Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy as part of the Emotional Guidance Counselling Team. She is based in the Junior school at NLCS Jeju. Sarah is also the Boarding Mistress at Iho Boarding Home.

David is ethnically Korean but was raised in the United States. He has a BS in Mathematical and Computational Science and an MS in Engineering-Economic Systems and Operations Research from Stanford University along with an MA in Intercultural Studies and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Wheaton College. He has his teaching credentials for teaching secondary mathematics from the state of Florida. He has been teaching internationally, both mathematics and English, for over 20 years in Korea, China, and Turkey. He considers himself a lifelong learner, and believes the best teachers are those who see their jobs as a calling. He is excited to share his enthusiasm for maths with his students and learn what they are passionate about.

Leela has a Bachelors in English and Journalism from the University of Tasmania and a PGCE from the University of Cumbria. Prior to joining the School, Leela worked at a school in the UK, she started her teaching career 9 years ago as a teaching assistant. Leela enjoys reading, baking and dancing, she also loves travelling to new countries and experiencing their culture. She values the holistic approach to an NLCS Jeju education.

Jaheeda holds a BEd in Primary Education from the University of Hertfordshire and has 10 years of teaching experience, including four years in Korea. Before joining NLCS Jeju, she taught at a school in Seoul. She is passionate about encouraging every child to achieve their best and develop confidence in their abilities. Outside the classroom, Jaheeda enjoys music, reading and learning new languages. She also loves exploring Jeju and discovering more about the island’s rich culture and fascinating history.

Gwangho is from Korea. After earning his BEd in Junior Education, Gwangho started his teaching career at KIS, Jeju. Gwangho joined NLCS Jeju in August 2014 as a Korean Language teacher in the Junior School. Previously, he has been the Assistant Housemaster of Harubang House and is now the school's Community and Service coordinator.

Eunmi Jeong has a Master’s degree in Elementary Education in English and a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in Social Studies from Jeju National University. She has been teaching for 15 years in Korean public elementary schools. Before coming to work for NLCS Jeju, she was a Best English Teacher and Science-Information Head Teacher. She also worked as a consultant for young teachers and foreign teachers with Jeju POE. She has won 1st place in a teaching competition for Korean teachers in 2013 and 2017. She has an interest in Korean history, children’s books, and loves to cook Korean food and hope that her interests can be shared with students at NLCS Jeju.

After earning a BFA in Illustration from the Parsons School of Design in New York, Yeon Hwa went on to gain a Master’s degree from a graduate school of Hongik University in Art Education. She started her teaching career at Hillsboro Private School in the US and before moving to NLCS Jeju, she taught Art and Korean at Seoul Foreign School, Seoil University and Digital Seoul Culture Arts University in Seoul. Yeon Hwa is passionate about Art as well as teaching those new to the Korean language.

Daniel has an MS.Ed. in English Education from City University of New York Lehman College, a BA English from Ohio University - Honors Tutorial College and a Public School Teacher Professional Certificate- from University of the State of New York. Prior to joining the School he taught and was the Director of IB Programmes at a school in America. Dan is a passionate lifelong learner and IBEN educator who, when not in the classroom, enjoys spending time with his family in the outdoors, basketball, and travelling. He lives on Jeju with his wife and two children. He enjoys contributing to NLCS Jeju's traditions of academic excellence and the cultivation of international mindedness and global citizenship in service of a better world.

Before coming to NLCS Jeju in 2011, Byung Gyu was teaching Korean in a Korean School. He studied Korean Language and Literature and then carried on further studies and has got a Master’s degree in Korean language education. Byung Gyu graduated from Yonsei University and is currently completing a PhD in Koreanology, he is passionate about academic life and wishes to use this passion for his subject to further inspire his students. Byung Gyu has now a long experience of teaching the IBDP Korean and IGCSE Korean Language classes. He has enjoyed living in Jeju since 2011 and has fallen in love with its nature and unique atmosphere that the island offers.

Maxton Karamalla is a teacher of French and Spanish and joined the European Languages Department in 2016. Maxton joined us from the UK and he has also taught Italian and Japanese as part of our co-curricular program. Maxton is an avid linguist and he has completed extensive academic research in Modern Languages and Literature in a range of universities including the University of London, Oxford University, the Sorbonne University and Universidad de Buenos Aires. Whilst here in Jeju, Maxton has completed his PHD and is now Dr Karamalla. He enjoys reading, playing sports, travelling and discovering new cultures in his free time.

Sharon joined NLCS Jeju in September 2014, having been Head of Faculty at an International IB School in Cyprus for 7 years. In addition to her BA (Hons.), she studied Psychoanalysis and Culture for her MA, specialising in visual analysis. Sharon has particular expertise in critical and contextual studies, and film and digital media. She completed her PGCE at UCL and worked for 5 years in an inner London state school running the A level Art program. Sharon moved to Jeju with her partner, Mr Crebier and has 2 sons.

Boyoung Kim is from South Korea and came to NLCS Jeju in 2016 with over 16 years of university guidance experience at prestigious high schools in Korea such as Hanyoung Foreign Language High School and CheongShim International Academy. She studied Psychology at Purdue University in the United States and finished a Master's Degree in Educational Counseling in Yonsei University. She was an advisory committee member of AP Research and Development Team in KIST. She was also a consultant for the Dream Scholarship in Korea Student Aid Foundation and is a member of Korean Counselling Psychological Association.

Hugh was born in South Korea and he grew up in London. Hugh studied BSc Biomedical Science at Imperial College London and MSc Clinical Neuroscience at University College London. After obtaining a PGCE Secondary Science qualification from the Institute of Education, he started to work as a Science teacher in both state and private schools in the UK. Prior to joining NLCS Jeju, Hugh has been teaching at Harrow Beijing for 3 years and he is thrilled to continue his teaching career at NLCS Jeju.

Hyehyang is from Korea and after earning a BA in English Language and Literature, went on to gain a Masters degree in English Education and teaching certification at Chung-Ang University in Seoul. She has also completed KTTC Korean Teacher's Training Course at Jeju National University and recently completed a BA in Korean Language and Literature from the Korea National Open University. She worked at the Shanghai Korean International school before she moved to Jeju to start work at NLCS Jeju when it opened in 2011. She is passionate about teaching KSL and Korean B.

Jae Shin Kim comes from Korea and, after earning a Bachelor's degree in Korean and English, went on to gain a Masters degree in English and a TESOL Diploma in Canada. She is currently attending graduate school to acquire a Master's degree in Korean. After working in a foreign company for some years, she worked as a teacher in domestic schools for more than 6 years. Jae Shin enjoys teaching at NLCS Jeju, which is her first post in international education.

Jeanhee is a Korean Language and History teacher at NLCS Jeju, bringing over 10 years of teaching experience in Korean high schools, as well as professional experience with the Office of Education.

With academic backgrounds in History, Social Studies, and Korean Language and Literature, she holds Master’s degrees in Education and Social Studies Education, and is also a certified Reading, Debating and Essay Instructor.

Passionate about inspiring students to learn and think deeply, Jeanhee is dedicated to nurturing their academic achievement, intellectual curiosity, and continued growth.

Mark has a Master of International Education -from the University of Melbourne, and a Master of Teaching from the University of Western Australia, as well as a Graduate Certificate of STEM Education from Monash University and a Bachelor of Science Biology from University of Maryland College Park. His CELTA is from the University of Cambridge. Prior to joining the School Mark was a teacher in Australia. He is a qualified Visual Arts teacher and has taught Visual Arts until last 2021. He has taught lower school mathematics and EAL/D as well. Furthermore, he has been an ESL/EFL teacher for more than 10 years. Mark enjoys adventure and learning from new experiences, which is why he decided to come to Jeju. He loves reading and watching movies and has a keen interest in how people learn and apply their knowledge, which is why he is currently studying Gifted Education.

Yeonha is originally from Incheon. She graduated from Ewha Womans University in 2013 and studied Social Studies Education and Integrated Social Studies Education. Yeonha worked at Chadwick International school in Songdo for 2 years before moving to NLCS Jeju in 2017. She teaches Korean History for Yr7 to Yr11.

Kihyun has a Bachelor’s degree in Political science and Diplomacy and a double major in history from Konkuk University. She has taught Grade 12 Korean history at Chadwick International School for five years. Her previous experience at a multicultural public school sparked her interest in learning about other cultures. This led to Kihyun travelling to various places around the world such as Russia, Mongolia, Vietnam, U.SA and Taiwan. She is originally from Incheon.

DongKwang Lee comes from Korea and after earning a BEd in elementary education in Seoul National University of Education he went on to gain a Masters degree in Educational Administration from the University of Kyongbuk. DongKwang started his teaching career in the Korean public education system before gaining posts as Head of Science and Year 6 in Gaeil elementary school in Seoul. In 2009 he acquired his 1st level teacher degree and joined NLCS Jeju in 2011 as the Head of Korean department. DongKwang has been married for 19 years and has two children who are students in the Senior School.

At NLCS Jeju, she teaches Korean and Korean Social Studies in the Junior School and has worked as a Years 5 and 6 Tutor. She is passionate about creating engaging, student-centred learning experiences and supporting students in developing confidence, independence and a love of learning.

Alongside her teaching role, Geun has a strong passion for football and has coached the girls’ football team at NLCS Jeju since 2019. She has supported students in participating in local and international competitions and enjoys using sport to develop teamwork, resilience and confidence.

She is particularly interested in connecting language learning with students’ interests and experiences and enjoys helping students become confident and enthusiastic learners.

Jin Woo has a BSc Chemistry from the University of Auckland and a PGDipTchg from the University of Auckland. Prior to joining the School he taught at a Grammar School in Auckland, New Zealand. Jin Woo enjoys travelling and learning about Korean history and culture. He enjoys discovering Jeju's beautiful scenery and trying local delicacies. He has a keen interest in Football and he is a Liverpool FC supporter. They enjoy mentoring students to develop their passsion for Chemistry.

Lindsay has a Master of Education (M.Ed) - Society, Culture and Literacies. Lindsay enjoys exploring Jeju Island and finding small gems within different neighbourhoods. She explores new places with her dog, Oreum, who was found all by herself exploring the bottom of Sanbang-san. She loves Jeju because of the easy access to beaches at time of the day. She loves to snorkel and hopes to learn freediving on the island in the near future. Lindsay also likes to paint and do calligraphy at home.

Seong-il is from Seoul. He studied and graduated from the Seoul National University of Education. Seong-il received a Masters from the graduate school of Baekseok University after 3 years of study. He started his teaching career in public elementary school in 1999 and worked as head of various academic departments for 7 years. Seong-il began teaching at NLCS Jeju in 2017.

Adam Lim has a Bachelor of Arts in English with a Philosophy Minor from the University of Alberta 和 a Master of Education with a specialization in International Education from Framingham State University. He has been living and teaching in South Korea since 2011. He was the IBDP English A Language and Literature Teacher, TOK Coordinator, and University Guidance Counsellor at the Gyeonggi Academy of Foreign Languages in Uiwang, South Korea. He enjoys running, golfing, and spending time with his wife and son.

Stacey has an MA English Literature from National Chung-Hsing University Taiwan, BA English Literature from Tamkang University Taiwan and a PGCEi from Keele University. Prior to joining the School she has worked in Taiwan, New Zealand and Vietnam. Stacey enjoys reading and traveling. She loves living in Jeju because of all the outdoor activities and beautiful scenery. She lives on Jeju with her family. Whilst at NLCS, she enjoys gaining further experience both in her subject domain and to inspire students to learn the language.

James has a BA (Hons) in Politics and International Studies from the University of Leeds. He has his teaching qualification from Hainault Forest School in North London. James also studied in Maastricht, Holland, at UCM, where he completed a study-abroad qualification in International Relations. He has previously worked as head of Gifted and Talented at the International Community School in Amman, Jordan where he was also a Year 4 teacher. James enjoys running and has taken part in events in Palestine, Amman and London.

Alejandra has a BA in English language, history and literature from the University of Granada, an MA in Teaching Spanish as a second language from the University of Sevilla and an MA in Teaching Compulsory Secondary Education and Baccalaureate, Vocational Training and Language Teaching from the University of Granada. She completed her PGCE at the University of Southampton. Prior to joining the School she taught in the UK. Alejandra enjoys long walks by the seaside, sports, cooking and drawing. At the moment, she is learning how to play the ukulele, and she enjoys exploring Jeju with her husband and immersing herself in the Korean culture - and trying the delicious Korean cuisine, of course. She enjoys teaching languages and is excited to share her passion for the Spanish language and culture at NLCS Jeju.

Dylan has a BA (Hons) in Historical Studies from The University of KwaZulu-Natal and an MA in Historical Studies from the University of Cape Town. After university, he went back to his old school where he taught English and headed the history department before moving to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to teach English at Jeddah Knowledge International School. Dylan considers himself a curious mixture of sports-jock and academic-nerd as his interests include rugby, kayaking, endurance running, reading, researching and writing. Academically, he is co-authored an article for the Journal of Natal and Zulu History. Personally, he loves living on Jeju and exploring the Olle trails with his wife and young daughter.

Ms. Luo originally comes from China. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Science from Zhejiang University, China and a Master of Philosophy degree in Environment and Development Economics from the University of Oslo, Norway. She also has a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (International) With Merit from University of Nottingham, UK. Ms. Luo is passionate about development issues and has worked for three outstanding development organisations: Voluntary Service Overseas UK, IFRC and UNICEF. Ms Luo has worked at NLCS Jeju since 2015. She had taught for 4 years in the Senior school and also served as Chinese Community Coordinator from 2015 to 2019. Now she works as a full time Mandarin teacher in Junior school. Ms. Luo is married to Douglas Machin who also teaches at NLCS Jeju. They have three children.

Tim has a BA from Swansea University and a Master’s from Université Lumière Lyon II. He has over 20 years’ experience teaching in the UK, France and Japan, and most recently held the position of Head of MFL and Assistant Head of Sixth Form at a school in North Devon. Tim is looking forward learning another language and to having a new adventure with his family.

Doug is from the UK. After earning a BSc in Pure Mathematics and Chemistry, he went on to gain an MSc degree in Operational Research. Following a few years in London as a Management Consultant, Doug's career path moved towards education and he completed his PGCE, specialising in teaching Mathematics. Doug started his career in education in the UK and then took his first international teaching position and has never looked back. Doug has now taught internationally for 15 years in Asia and for 3 years in Africa. Alongside teaching, Doug enjoys the outdoors, specifically walking and kayaking and loves leading the 'Beyond the Classroom' programme.

Russell has a BA Sociology from the University of Reading and PGCE from the University of Exeter. Currently he is working towards an MSc in Psychology with a specialism in Clinical Psychology from the University of Exeter. Prior to joining the School, Russell worked at schools in inner city London. Russell enjoys travelling around Asia, reading widely and cooking. Russell loves living in Jeju because it’s so beautiful and full of wonderful nature to hike in. Russell has a keen interest in politics and current affairs. He lives on Jeju with his wife and son. He enjoys bringing his experience of British education to this exceptional school.

Kyungmin is originally from South Korea and holds a Bachelor's degree in Korean Language Education along with his teaching qualification from Korea University. He began his teaching career at a local high school in Jeju and also has experience working as a mock exam developer for the Korean language subject in the Korean S.A.T. Currently, he teaches Korean Language and the IB Korean A Lang & Lit, striving to create a joyful learning experience for his students. Since getting married in 2016, he has been residing in Jeju, where he enjoys exploring the island's natural beauty, including its trail courses, oreums (volcanic cones), and beaches.

Kiran is a dedicated Computer Science educator at NLCS Jeju, bringing over 16 years of international teaching experience across the IGCSE and IBDP curricula, alongside a solid three-year foundational background as a .NET and C# software developer. His global career includes impactful teaching years in Indonesia before moving to South Korea, allowing him to bring a diverse, multicultural perspective into the classroom. Academically, he holds an MSc in Computer Science from Mumbai University, a PGCEi from the University of Nottingham, and is currently expanding his technical expertise by pursuing an MCA specializing in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence from Chandigarh University.

Driven by a passion for nurturing student potential, Kiran actively bridges the gap between academic theory and real-world technology industry practices. In addition to classroom teaching, he coordinates and runs various student programming competitions at NLCS Jeju to challenge and inspire young innovators. Beyond the world of coding and academics, Kiran is an avid cricket enthusiast who has actively competed in the Jakarta Cricket League for the Metro Indians, bringing that same team spirit and drive into his mission of supporting every learner to achieve their absolute best.

Ben Matthews has a BA (Hons) in History with Sociology and a PGCE from the University of Leeds. He also earned a MA in History from the University of Birmingham, where he was awarded a distinction. He will be awarded his second Masters degree in May 2027 when he completes his Masters in Educational Leadership and Management.

He has over 20 years of teaching experience and has taught IBDP History since 2010. Prior to joining NLCS Jeju in 2020, he worked as an IBDP Coordinator for three years, and taught for ten years at Gyeonggi Academy of Foreign Languages in Korea. He has also previously taught in England and Qatar.

Ben’s philosophies in teaching are underpinned by his wish to develop lessons that allow students to share his passion for history, access a range of different perspectives, and to develop skills that enable all students to become scholars and lifelong learners. Beyond the curriculum, he has organised and led several overseas academic trips to Japan and China to enable students to visit cultural sites and engage with historical documents. In 2023, he had the honour of receiving an Outstanding Educator Award from the University of Chicago.

Ben loves to spend time with his family, which includes his wife and two children. They enjoy completing the various olle trails on the island and spending time at the beach with friends. Ben is a keen sportsman and regularly plays golf and badminton, sports he coaches for his CCA and Bryants.

Adam McCue has an Upper Second class degree from Liverpool John Moores University, a Diploma in TESOL and an MEd (Applied Linguistics). He is in his tenth year of teaching English as an Additional Language, with the majority of this time in various locations around Korea; Seoul, Incheon, Daegu and Busan. Since joining NLCS Jeju, Adam has worked as an AED teacher and also as Assistant Housemaster in Halla East as well as being a Housemaster in Jeoji.

Stephen McKeogh has a Master’s degree in Geography from NUI Maynooth and GMIT, where he was also awarded a BA in Heritage Studies with Honours. Stephen graduated with Distinction and has presented a paper at The Royal Geographical Society. Prior to teaching in Korea, Stephen was Head of Geography at Boston Spa Academy in West Yorkshire, he spent 7 years teaching there with excellent results. Stephen has also worked in Ireland and Korea in the University sector, in Ireland Stephen worked as an Academic Coordinator whose focus was upon Academic writing and integration for Chinese and Korean students in Ireland. Stephen worked at Dongguk University in Seoul for 5 years teaching English and also lectured in Environmental Geography. He has an interest in Korean History, Archaeology and Geography. Stephen likes Korean culture and cuisine.

Robert has BA in Philosophy and Politics from University College Dublin, in Ireland. He gained further qualifications in the UK including a Masters in International History and a PGCE through the University of Sunderland. Prior to joining NLCS Jeju, he has taught at mixed IB and British International schools for six years, with time spent in Korea and the cities of Nanjing and Hangzhou in China. Robert has a keen interest in both playing and watching sports and he hopes that Jeju can provide the impetus to reignite his passion for golf and tennis once again.

Darija Minic has an MSc in Occupational Health Psychology from Leiden University in the Netherlands. She obtained her BSc in Psychology at University of Belgrade, Faculty of Philosophy, in Serbia, her home country. Darija has already spent two years working at NLCS Jeju as a Gap Assistant and as a Grad Assistant after which she moved to Thailand and spent a year working in boarding and in the Learning Support Department at Harrow International School Bangkok.

Carolyn Moran is an Early Years trained teacher with a Master's degree in Educational Studies from the University of South Australia. She was also awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Language and a Bachelor's degree from Murdoch University. Having an interest in child development, Carolyn was trained in the effects of movement and environment on early learning by the Institute of Neuro Physiological Psychology, Cambridge. Prior to teaching in Korea, she was an Early Years teacher in Brunei Darussalam, developed bilingual education in the Cocos Keeling Islands and worked as both an Early Years teacher and in an advisory capacity in Western Australia. Carolyn is also a trained and registered Dance teacher with the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dance (Com dance). She has two children working in London and Perth and a third at university in Chicago. She enjoys experiencing the culture in Korea and exploring Jeju island.

Arunima comes from India where she taught Economics and Business Studies to IB & IGCSE students for over 18 years. She has a Masters degree in Economics and English along with a B.Ed. Arunima is an IB Examiner and Moderator for Economics HL. Before taking her first overseas teaching job at NLCS Jeju Arunima worked in IB schools as Head of Department, IB Coordinator and Head of School. She has a daughter who attends the Junior school.

Joan has a BA in English Language and Literature from Seoul National University and an iPGCE from the University of Sunderland. Prior to joining NLCS Jeju, she taught IBDP and IGCSE at schools in Mexico, Uzbekistan and Turkey. She was born in South Korea and raised in Mexico. Joan is looking forward to exploring the beautiful island of Jeju and indulging in its culinary delights with her husband.

Kyung Soo graduated from Busan National University and Hansei University before embarking on further studies in Birmingham, England. Kyungsoo also trained and experienced a number of different aspecst of social work in counselling centers in Seoul and Kyunggi-do and currently enjoys working with our students and skilled counselling team.

Misun Park is an experienced educator with over 25 years of teaching experience, including 20 years in international schools and 5 years in Korean public secondary education. A founding member of the NLCS Jeju Korean Department in 2011, she previously taught Korean Language and Literature at an international school in Seoul, as well as in local middle and high schools in Korea.

Misun has extensive experience teaching Korean from KS3 to KS5 and brings a deep passion for Korean Literature, guiding students to develop strong analytical and critical thinking skills through language and literature. In addition to her teaching role, she makes significant contributions to the International Baccalaureate community as a confirmed IB DP Examiner, Consultant, School Visit Team Member, and School Visit Team Leader.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Korean Language and Literature and a Master’s degree in Teaching Korean as a Foreign Language from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and continues to support the ongoing growth and excellence of the Korean Department at NLCS Jeju.

Derek Patenaude has a BSc. (Hons) in Chemistry and Biochemistry from University of Western Ontario, London, Canada and an MEd in Curriculum Development and English as an Additional Language Learning from the University of British Columbia. His teaching qualification is from the University of Toronto, Ontario Institute of Education. Before training as a teacher, he was an assistant teacher of laboratories at McGill University and worked in an educational capacity for various organisations in Canada such as the Ontario March of Dimes. His last post was as a chemistry teacher and Vice-Principal for Maple Leaf International School in Tianjin, China. He is enjoys the many hiking trails of Jeju and returning to such beautiful sites as Mt. Halla and Ilchulbong

Ian has a BA (Hons) in Music from Kingston University and has taught both Music and Drama for half of his professional teaching career. His PGCE teaching qualification is from Middlesex University, however, before training as a teacher he worked in the UK as an assistant opera director. He has worked overseas for many years in countries including Madrid, Rome and Jakarta, with his most recent post being Head of Drama at Tanglin Trust School, Singapore. He enjoys living in Jeju and exploring the culinary world of the region.

Sophie Perry graduated from the University of Brighton with a BA (Hons) degree in Physical Education (QTS). Upon graduation, she worked in the South of England before venturing abroad to teach internationally. She worked in a British international school in Thailand and has held a variety of middle leadership positions, both academically and pastorally throughout her teaching career. Sophie is a keen sportswoman and was a professional footballer in England for Brighton and Hove Albion and Chelsea FC, she was a senior international for the Republic of Ireland and has played against some of the world's best players.

Aisleen Renshaw has a BSc (Hons) in Education Studies from University of Southampton. Her teaching qualification is from Institute of Education, University College of London, where she specialised in primary mathematics. Before training as a teacher she was a Learning Support Assistant at Botley Primary School (Southampton, England) and supported Year 6 children in preparation for their end of Key Stage 2 examinations. Her last post was at ARK Globe Academy (London, England) where she taught as a Year 1 and Year 4 teacher. In her spare time, Aisleen enjoys dancing and participated in three showcases in London. She enjoys living in Jeju and is exploring the beautiful spots across the island and trying local cuisine.

Craig holds a BA in media and mass communication theory and a PGCE from the University of Derby with a focus on English education.

He has a master’s degree in English literature from the University of Northumbria, with research interests in early modern literature.

Craig has over seventeen years of experience working in education and has worked with primary and secondary students as well as adults in the UK and Korea.

He has lived in Seoul, Incheon and Geoje-do in South Korea before moving to Jeju-do. He has a keen interest in a variety of literature, from nineteenth-century classics to science fiction, and is excited to discuss whatever it is you’re currently reading. When not reading or in the classroom, Craig enjoys a slow morning at a café with his family or playing the guitar.

Jearson has a BSc (Hons) in Maths Teaching and an M.ed in Technology and Educative Innovation both from the National University of Costa Rica. Prior to joining NLCS Jeju he taught at a school and a number of univerities in Costa Rica - Teaching Calculus, Linear Algebra and Numerical Methods. Jearson enjoys outdoor activities (especially fly fishing ) and football.

Joel has a BSc Pharmacology from University of Hertfordshire, prior to joining NLCS Jeju, Joel taught at a school in Malaysia. Joel has a passion for extreme sports and the natural world, and is excited at the prospect of having opportunities for both scuba diving and snowboarding, while living and working in Jeju. He believes in the power of a holistic education and hopes to foster a sense of independence and internationalism in the students of NLCS Jeju.

Emma has a BA(HONS) in Classics I from Durham University and a PGCE from Kings’ College London. Passionate about her subject, she loves to inspire her students to share her interest in the Classical world. She has over 20 years of teaching experience and has been Head of department in both her previous schools, most recently a boarding school in Devon. She is looking forward to exploring Jeju and experiencing a new culture with her family.

Niall is from Northern Ireland, and holds a BSC (Hons) in Multimedia Technology. Before arriving at NLCS Jeju, he taught Computer Science for 5 years in a leading school in London and spent 3 years teaching in middle schools in South Korea. Niall enjoys living in Jeju with his wife and daughter and enjoys mountain biking around the island and exploring its various oreums.

Sunghyun has a BA Liberal Arts programme - History of East Asia from University of Tokyo (full 'The University of Tokyo Scholarship) and an iPGCE (Geography) from the University of Sunderland. Sunghyun was a student at NLCS Jeju for four years where she was Head of the Geogrpahy Society, a member of the Big Six and a Mulchat House Captain. She returned to NLCS Jeju to work as a Graduate Assistant in the Geography Department and trained to be a teacher. Sunghyun enjoys going to library and gym. Sunghyun loves living in Jeju because of the relatively low population density (in comparison to Seoul). She believes that students can only learn when they are happy and healthy (importance of pastoral care).

Julia Smith has a BA hons in Physical Education and Dance Fellowship in Freestyle dance from the University Greenwich in the UK. She has worked extensively in the UK - most recently as Head of Dance and School Sports Co-ordinator at Langley Park School for Girls in Beckenham, Kent. Previously she was Head of Dance at Plumstead Manor School. She hopes to share her passion for dance and creative wellbeing with the students and NLCS Jeju community. She wants to develop new opportunities to showcase creative talent and enrich and grow students’ confidence and self belief.

Dave completed his PGCE in primary education at the University of Hull and has lived and taught at NLCS Jeju since 2011 when the school first opened. He was originally a Y4 teacher and the maths coordinator for the Junior School before teaching Year 2 students. Dave then followed his passion and became Head of Computer Science. Prior to working in South Korea, he worked as a Y6 & Y3 teacher and coordinated PE in a state school in the UK. Dave is married with a young daughter and whenever he finds any spare time he likes to cycle, play tennis and paddle-board.

Grace Son is from Korea and graduated with a BA in Early Childhood Education and English Literature. She had completed with an MA in English Education and Korean Language at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. She has more than 20 years of experience as a school teacher. Since January 2013, she has been a KSL teacher at NLCS Junior School.

Eun Ji Song studied International Tourism in Korea and after working with children and young people over 10 years, she found a passion in pastoral care. She gained a Diploma in Counselling and Postgraduate Certificate as a SENCO in the United Kingdom. She joined NLCS Jeju in 2017 and worked in the Additional Educational Needs department in the Junior School and is now a member of Individual Needs department. Currently, she is taking a Master's degree in Mental Health and Well-Being in Education.

Harry Thorrington, MA (Oxon) MA (Leuven) has lived in Canada, South Korea, Belgium and Bangladesh. He was a Music and ToK teacher at NLCS Jeju from 2013-2018 and is happy to be back this academic year; it's an inspiring and ambitious community! He left Korea to successfully pursue a master's degree in Belgium, then went to Bangladesh to study the UN Sustainable Development Goals on behalf of the Association of Commonwealth Universities at the University of Dhaka.

James holds a degree in Computer Science and a PGCE from Sheffield Hallam University, and I have been teaching for 16 years. His career began at a high-achieving Catholic school in Sheffield, where he served as subject leader and then head of department for three years before relocating to NLCS Jeju with his family. Together, they embraced the local culture, completing all the Olle trails and now setting our sights on climbing all the Oreums that are accessible and cataloguing them for others.

In addition to his passion for teaching, he enjoys outdoor pursuits, particularly archery and fishing, which I pursue through the Bryant program and passing on and sharing knowledge with the pupils.

Finally, he is particularly enthusiastic about exploring how computers, automation, and robotics can benefit society and the environment, and he loves sharing this passion with his students. He also has a slight obsession with spreadsheets and enjoy using them for data analysis!

 Eszter holds an Erasmus Mundus Master’s degree in Adapted Physical Activity, coordinated by KU Leuven and delivered through an international consortium of universities.

 She later qualified as a Special Educational Needs (SEN) teacher through the University of Jyväskylä and completed additional training in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) with the University of California, Santa Barbara. She also holds the QASP-S credential (Qualified Autism Service Practitioner – Supervisor), accredited by the QABA board, which supports her work in positive behaviour support.

Michelle is originally from South Africa and holds a Bachelor of Primary Education degree. She has many years of experience teaching children in Grades 1–3 as a class teacher, as well as teaching Art to students from Grades 1–7. Throughout her career, she has also served as Head of both the Foundation Phase and Art Departments at schools in her hometown of Port Elizabeth.

Michelle is passionate about reading, travel, art and all things creative, and enjoys using these interests to inspire a love of learning in her students. She particularly enjoys discovering new artists, ideas and approaches to art education, and finding fresh and inspiring ways to bring creativity into the classroom. She is committed to creating engaging art experiences that encourage students to explore, experiment and develop confidence in their own creative abilities.

Outside the classroom, Michelle and her family enjoy long walks, exploring the island, and experiencing the rich culture of South Korea.

Joshua has a Bsc (Hons) Mathematics from the University of Bristol and PGCE from the University of Canterbury. Prior to joining NLCS Jeju, Joshua worked as a Lead Practitioner in a school in the UK. He has been teaching Maths for over 11 years. Joshua enjoys all sports but is an avid football fan both playing and watching his home team Spurs.

David has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and a PGCE from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Prior to joining the School he was Head of Grade 12 English at a school in South Africa. David has a passion for reading and bird watching, but also spends many hours building Lego, brewing coffee, and lamenting the bad luck of the South African cricket team. He lives on Jeju with his wife. He enjoys helping students grow their love for English (with all its maddening peculiarities) and a desire to become life-long learners and avid story tellers.

Lawrence graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and continued his studies with a Postgraduate Degree in teaching from the University of Hull. In the UK, Lawrence taught in Newcastle Upon Tyne as part of the NEAT Academy Trust, gaining experience in all Key Stages, from Early Years to Upper Key Stage 2, and holding roles such as P.E lead, STEM coordinator and council representative for the Trust. After moving to Malaysia, Lawrence worked as an Early Years Coordinator and then Year 3 lead Teacher at an International school in Kuala Lumpur. Lawrence is delighted to return to South Korea, and especially Jeju-do, where he is looking forward to raising his young family on the island, rediscovering his passion for the amazing food and culture that South Korea is so famous for.

April has a Bachelor of Education and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning (Secondary) both from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. Prior to joining the School she taught at a school in Mexico. April really enjoys Crossfit, exploring the outdoors with her two dogs, drinking coffee and eating new and exciting foods. She lives on Jeju with her husband and two dogs. She is really looking forward to working with the staff and students, particularly those in Jeoji house.

Sam has a BSc Mathematics from the University of Otago and a Graduate Diploma Teaching and Learning from the University of Canterbury. Prior to joining the School, Sam taught at a school in Mexico and before that, was a Boarding House Master in Malaysia. Sam enjoys exercising and playing with his 2 dogs, watching and playing cricket and exploring the outdoors. He lives on Jeju with his wife. He enjoys worksing with the wonderful and ambitious students and staff at NLCS Jeju.
